In a first, Shodhyatra, the journey for the search of knowledge, creativity and innovations at the grassroots, will be revisiting its older routes that date back to 20 years ago. This month, the yatra will be held from Nilpar to Nani Khakhar in Gujarat, which was the same route in 1999 where 4th Shodhyatra was organised.

"The idea is to revisit the same route to understand whether our innovations are working in the right direction or we need to realign ourselves," said officials at SRISTI.

Shodhyatra, organised by Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions (SRISTI) began with only twice a year in 1998, is now being held six times in a year .

Speaking about the same, professor Anil Gupta, founder of National Innovation Foundation (NIF) said, "Now that we have evolved the Shodhyatra to six times in a year, it is important to have one or two on old route to understand the new ideas and new innovations, also to understand our society better. If we do not go back, it will not help us. The idea is also to understand the challenges which have not been addressed by us and thereby redirecting ourselves."

The 42nd yatra will start from August 19 to August 25 from Nilpar.

Shodh Yatra is an attempt, on the part of SRISTI, to reach out to the most remote parts of the country with a firm belief that the hardship and challenges of natural surroundings are prime motivators of creativity and innovations. Shodh Yatra is participated by many people ranging across farmers, students, doctors, teachers and even foreigners, mainly driven by varying interests like getting close to nature and spreading awareness, experiencing the different cultures of the different people, discovering flora and fauna and so on.

It was started in 1998, out of a meeting organised at Titodi of Junaghad district of Gujarat. The farmers present felt that it was important and necessary to encourage organic farming. Moreover, there were many people from nearby villages who had found the solutions of their own problems through their inborn ability and presence of mind.
