The State Police arrested five people following seizure of 34 kilo ganja worth nearly Rs 3.40 lakh from them in two separate incidents on Friday.

Officials said that in the first case, a team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Ahmedabad Police arrested one Amin alias Lichi Shaikh, a resident of Isanpur in Ahmedabad, from Ahmeda-bad railway station. Shaikh was found to be in possession of six kilo ganja, and was arrested. Shaikh told the police during interrogation that he had brought the contraband from Surat, and had planned to sell it in Ahmedabad.

In another case, Gandhinagar Crime Branch arrested four persons from near Shertha toll booth following a tip-off about a drug deal. Police said that 28 kilo ganja, which was being transported in two bags, was seized from the accused person’s possession. Officials pegged the value of the seized ganja at Rs2.80 lakh. A car, mobile phones, and some cash were also seized from them.

The four accused, identified as Wahid Shaikh, Mohammed Aarif Hussain, Imran Pathan, and Mohammed Parvez Shaikh, were coming from Radhanpur in Patan.
