Parents of children taking admission under the Right to Education (RTE) along with the National Students Union of India (NSUI) have demanded the admission process date to be extended to benefit more number of parents.

NSUI in their letter to the District Education Officer have cited state government officials busy in poll duty due to which the documents availed by the parents are being delayed. Without the documents, admission cannot take place. Also, of the 11 days of process, three days have gone as holidays, said Narayan Bharwad, secretary, NSUI. Another a letter written to the education department, Gulmoin Khokkhar, who runs Zubeida Seva Ghar helping parents fill up admission forms, he has said that many parents are unable to get their income certificate and Aadhar cards till April 15. Since these document processes are being delayed, it would help if the dates are extended so that more parents can benefit out of the same, Kokkhar said.

When dna asked MI Joshi, Director, primary education, he said, "There is no plan as yet to extent the admission process dates as we have to finish the admissions on time. Till date, we have received good response from parents. A total of 1,28,000 applications have been received of which 88,000 have been confirmed."

This year, the state government aims to give admissions to 1.10 lakh students as against 85,000 last year. The process will continue till April 20. The education department intends to complete the first round of admissions under RTE before summer holidays begin. The first list of admissions will be declared by April 25 and the students whose names are on that list will be required to confirm their admission before May 1.
