The admission scenario in MBA and MCA colleges in the state is quite worrisome. Even after the second round of admissions, no student applied for 107 colleges. Of a total of 108 MBA colleges, 35 have not got any student, whereas 24 colleges got less than 10. Of the 65 MCA colleges, 52 colleges got 0 students, whereas two got less than 10. Of the 64 MCA lateral colleges in the state, 20 got 0 students and 24 got less than 10.

Of the 2,386 seats allotted for MBA, 2,201 students paid fees and confirmed their admissions; In MCA, out of 390 seats, 370 were confirmed, and of the 757 seats in MCA laterals, 694 admissions were confirmed.

Interestingly, on Wednesday, the ACPC had advertised on their website about the vacant seats and called on interested candidates who wish to study these courses. The ACPC said, "Details on vacant seats will be available from Thursday and distribution of PIN will begin from August 10 and continue till August 18. The merit list will be announced on August 20."

Commenting on the scenario, Prateek Kanchan, Director, BK School of Management, Gujarat University, said, "The academicians who run these institutes are very committed. Maybe we do not have infrastructure as good as those in other self-financed colleges, but our teaching methods are good and so we get good students."

There is no reason for fewer students opting for MBA. The market scenario is good and so are placements. Students on an average are getting Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh package at the beginning, which is a decent amount," he added.

After round one of the admissions, nearly 75 MBA and MCA colleges had not got a single student, with hardly 25 colleges being able to fill up 100 per cent of their seats. After the first round, 20 MBA colleges had got no student, seven had got only one seat filled, whereas only 8 colleges had got two students. Experts say that the reason is that very few students appeared for the Common Management Aptitude Test (CMAT) this year, which is required to get admitted to colleges through ACPC.
