Gujarat MLAs, officials fined for not following traffic rules

The MLAs of Gujarat were in for a shock on Monday after they reached the entry gates of assembly and secretariat complex in Gandhinagar. Many of their vehicles were stopped, one after another, and were slammed challan for violating traffic rules.

The MLAs whose names have come to the fore are Lalit Vasoya (left), Congress MLA from Dhoraji, and Kirit Patel, Patan MLA. The duo was slammed by Rs500 challan for sticking black films on their car glasses.

When asked, Vasoya, in denial of being slammed the traffic challan, said his car was stopped only to be checked by the security staff. Patel, on the other hand, could not be reached for his comment. Several more MLAs were fined because their drivers were not wearing the seat belts. Several officials working in the secretariat were also fined for not wearing seatbelts, helmets and violating other rules.

Several officials and employees working in secretariat also were fined for not wearing seat belt, helmet and other rule violation. Many of the visitors also were slammed the memo for violation of the rules.  The road transport commissioner of Gujarat state had issued a circular to run a special drive in the state for traffic awareness among the citizens. Instructions were given to run the drive at secretariat complex entry points. The drive will continue for the week and the officials deputed will fine those who breach traffic rules.
