Gujarat MLAs can build bathrooms, RO plants for community purpose

The Gujarat government has expanded the scope for the utilization of the annual development grants to MLAs for development in their areas. The legislators can build bathrooms, RO Plants, prayer places, rooms in a crematorium in their area for community purpose.

The government allocated the annual grants to each of the MLAs every year with the state budget under the discretionary scheme of support scheme under Apno Taluko Vibrant Taluko project.

The planning department of the state government also issued the government resolution(GR) accordingly. The chief minister Vijay Rupani on Monday approved the recommendations made to government by the committee of senior ministers to decide on the issue.

The Chief Minister had formed the committee under the chairmanship of senior minister Saurabh Patel and other ministers Ganpatsinh Vasava, Pradipsinh Jadeja and Jaydrathsinh Parmar were the members in the same. As per the decision, the MLAs can utilise the grants for community bathrooms, RO Plants, plastic shade for mass prayer or physical training session for primary schools.

The government conveyed this through a press communique that mentioned, "The MLAs can also utilize their grants for works related to Anganwadi building, bird feeders. The limit of Rs. 25,000 per year for help to mid-day meal scheme has been increased to Rs. 50,000, whereas the limit of Rs. 50,000 for grants after the purchase of books and shelves in primary schools has been increased to Rs. 1 lakh."

"The limitation to utilise the grants after purchase of medical instruments in government hospitals also has been removed. The MLAs now can give their grants for the purpose for more than one time in a year," the government further mentioned.

The state government has also allowed the MLAs to utilise grants upto Rs. 2 lakh for construction of room in crematorium.

On May 21, the government issued the GR implementing the announcement by the finance minister increasing annual MLA grants for development to Rs. 1.5 crore from Rs. 1 crore.
