All that this bus driver has is hardcore honesty. The act of returning an expensive mobile phone that he found left in his bus may look very simple, but to initiate the thought in the mind and enact it is very difficult. The driver of Gujarat State Road Transport Service bus, travelling from Ahmedabad to Vijapur, last Friday is the protagonist of the story.

Narrating the incident, Amita Shukla, a resident of Maninagar, said she was going to Kalol Session's Court for some matter. She boarded the bus around 9.30 am. "While reaching the court, I realised I didn't have my mobile phone. I found my purse unzipped. For a moment I thought somebody must have stolen it," said Shukla.

While checking my bus, I heard a phone buzzing from the corner of a seat. "I heard the cell phone ringing. After searching the corner of the seat, I found the phone. It was her daughter calling. I responded to the call and said her mom has left the phone on the bus," said Saiyad Gulam Jilani, conductor Vijapur bus depot, batch number 608.

"We informed her that the bus will reach to Vijapur around 2 pm," he added. Shukla's daughter informed her (She was keeping another handset) if she can reach to Vijapur. "After finishing court work, I reached to Vijapur around 2.30 pm. The conductor returned me my phone. I was amazed by his honesty. I offered him some rupees, but he refused," said Shukla.

Jilani said, "All we want is respect from passengers. That's all. I am working for the state and in return, I am receiving salary, I don't want any other cash back from anyone for the job I'm doing. It is my duty to return the valuables which people forgot in the bus." Jilani is serving since last 18 years with the GSRTC.

Shukla got back her smartphone worth Rs13,000.
