The Gujarat High Court on Thursday provided major relief to police sub-inspector (PSI) Rakeshkumar Chaudhary who is accused of slapping his senior and IPS officer SK Gadhvi while on security duty at Ahmedabad airport for the visit of Prime Minister Modi on September 16, 2016.

Acting on a petition filed by Chaudhary against the discontinuance of his subsistence allowance, the single judge bench of Justice NV Anjaria ordered the director general of police-CID (crime) to immediately re-start the subsistence allowance liable to be paid to the petitioner.

The court directed the DGP to clear his arrears within six weeks. Notably, the DGP had discontinued the subsistence allowance of Chaudhary since June 2018. As per the case details, Chaudhary had sought permission from DGP-CID (crime) to stay at Mehsana and look after his father who was suffering from prostate cancer rather than Gandhinagar where his headquarters have been fixed. It was permitted by the DGP, but later the subsistence allowance was discontinued on the ground that Chaudhary had not returned. The counsel for Chaudhary, Rahul Sharma, contended that there was no order for Chaudhary to return to headquarters.
