Gujarat HC on Friday continued the marathon hearing in the bunch of petitions filed by farmers opposed to the proposed acquisition of their land for the ambitious bullet train project by taking it on priority bases. Farmers raised contentions against the state government and Centre with regard to their rehabilitation.

Counsel for the petitioner-farmers contended that the state government cannot do away with rehabilitation and resettlement of affected farmers just by offering 50 per cent additional compensation. The petitioners argued that rehabilitation are mandatory under the union government’s Right to Fair Compensation and Tra-nsparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement Act, 2013.
