A division bench of Gujarat High Court headed by Chief Justice R Subhash Reddy has issued notices to the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) and others in view of two separate petitions.

Both the petitions pertain to non-implementation of resolutions passed by the municipal corporation.

In the first petition, the petitioners sought implementation of lease rent agreement between the civic body and various educational institutions. The petition stated that the civic body had given several parcels of land to various educational institutes on lease rent agreement, but did not bother to collect rent on the same for many years.

The petition stated that the rent so forgone over the years amounted to Rs 40 crore and that the civic body had recently passed a resolution to recover the amount, but had not bothered to act on it.

Another petition accused the VMC of not constructing a town planning road between Gotri and Gorwa. The petition alleged that a resolution to construct the same had been passed, but no action had been taken.

It stated that lack of such a road was leading to heavy traffic jams in the area. Further hearing in the case will take place after two weeks.
