Gujarat government’s Goods and Service Tax (GST) commissionerate has formed the squads to check e-way bills. This squad will be moving on roads and will assess the e-way bills from the transporter for particular goods. The state government released the guidelines related to e-way bills on Wednesday a day before the implementation of the same which starts from February 01 across the nation.

The deputy chief minister and finance minister Nitin Patel said, “The GST commissionerate has formed the squads across the state for scrutiny of e-way bills. These squads will work on a pilot basis, but we will consider to continue it, if required. This system is going to bring transparency and we appeal everyone to follow the procedure for e-way bills to avoid hassles.”

“As per the government of India’s notification, 19 items have been included in the e-way bill when transported goods are above worth Rs 50,000 and other commodities will be included later. The goods being transported within the limits of the same city, town or village does not need to generate e-way bills as it is exempted under the schedule,” added Patel.

The Gujarat government has also informed the common people that it will not be mandatory to keep the hard copy of e-way bill but the soft copy stored in mobile also will be validated. The goods which have not been included under GST such as petroleum products like crude, high-speed diesel, petrol, natural gas, aviation turbine fuel(ATF), and liquor for human consumption, will not need to generate the e-way bills. The form number 402, 403 or 405 under VAT Act will have to be generated for the transportation of these exempted goods.
