The Aam Aadmi Party, on Monday, accused the ruling BJP of trying to sabotage its mahasammelan of farmers that was to be held in Gandhinagar.

"We had applied for police permission for the same, but the cops have told us that the permission will not be granted, " said Rajesh Patel general secretary the Gujarat state of AAP.

Patel said that the cops told them that they did not have enough manpower to manage the event. "We had earlier applied to hold the sammelan on August 27 at that time too the Gandhinagar police had refused it on the grounds that there was a shortage of manpower due to he Hardik Patel's fast," said Patel. He said what was interesting is that though the police had difficulty giving permission for the sammelan, the Congress was given permission to hold a farmers rally at the same spot.

"It clearly shows that the BJP is trying to scuttle our programme. We had made representation to the governor too in this matter. We want to gather farmers from across the state and talk about their condition as well as the rising unemployment," Patel said.

He said the party will now approach the high court with a complaint.

"Earlier too on October 16, 2006, the government had tried to scuttle a programme of Arvind Kejriwal by preventing police permission and we had to approach the court in the matter," said Patel.
