Gujarat government may reinstate Abhay Chudasama

The Gujarat government may reinstate suspended IPS officer Abhay Chudasama. One of the prime accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, he was recently granted bail by Bombay high court.
According to sources, the process of reinstating Chudasama to a post at DCP (deputy commissioner of police) post, may start after the appointment of the new chief minister in Gujarat on Wednesday.

The Rajasthan government last Friday reinstated another suspended IPS officer, Dinesh MN, who was also an accused in the same fake encounter case that occurred in 2005.

dna has learnt that ever since Chudasama was released, the state government has been planning to reinstate him. However, as the model code of conduct was in force due to the Lok Sabha election, the process for the same had to be postponed. Now, with the BJP coming to power at the Centre, the state government is likely to expedite the process, sources said.

It is believed that following the reinstatement of Dinesh by the Rajasthan government, chances of Chudasama’s reinstatement have become bright and is likely to take place after the new chief minister takes charge in Gujarat.

“Some political leaders had even met Chudasama before the Lok Sabha polls. DG Vanzara, another jailed IPS officer, was in the good books of the BJP. However, after he issued letters against the state government, he lost the confidence of the ruling party. On the other hand, Chudasama, who had never issued statements against the government, may be rewarded,” said a police official.

Chudasama was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in April 2010 in connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case. Sohrab and his wife were allegedly abducted by the Anti-Terrorist Squad of Gujarat from Hyderabad and killed in a suspected fake encounter near Gandhinagar in November 2005.
