Gujarat eyes Rs 5 Lakh-crore boost from Shinzo Abe, 15 MoUs to be signed

The India-Japan annual meet to be held on September14 in presence of PM Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe will witness the MoU sigining ceremony attracting investments of around Rs 5 lakh crore. The Gujarat government is preparing to host the event to take place at Mahatma Mandir in state capital city Gandhinagar and 15 MoUs will be signed here.

The Gujarat government is taking this event 'India Japan Annual Meet' as a modified version of Vibrant Gujarat Summit having the participation of more than 100 Japanese corporates and envoys. There are at least four corporate giants from Japan which are going to make an investments of Rs 1 lakh crore each. A very senior official of Gujarat government informed, "The Japanese companies are firm to make investments here and the amount will be near to Rs 5 lakh crore.

The MoUs will be signed in sectors such as engineering and automobile, infrastructure, IT and skill development. " Another senior official informed, "The MoUs to be signed here in event are with confirmation for investments. We do not wish to name the investors as Japanese government is very sensitive on that issue and has instructed to not reveal much about it. But three companies have already put their proposal of land acquisition and government has also finished all the formalities for the same."

The Japanese companies have been given land at Bahucharaji Mandal SIR, Sanand and Rajkot for investment purpose. There will be tripartiate agreements between government of Gujarat, Government of India and Japan Government. Other key areas identified by Gujarat government for development and investment from Japan are aerospace and defence manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, electronics, and housing. The state government has allocated land in Sanand near Khoraj village for the Japan-India Institute of Manufacturing.
