Congress supporters continue to be angry and protests against the party still prevail in Ahmedabad over the distribution of urban seats for the upcoming state Assembly election. The party members are arguing for strong candidates before the high command.

According to the sources, on Tuesday, a delegation made a presentation before the high command in Delhi showing their displeasure over local candidate Sabir Kablivala. Kablivala lost the election in 2012 from Jamalpur Khadia constituency. Locals and supporters from Congress are not in favour of his selection. Councillor Sahnawaj Shaikh and former leader of opposition at Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) have also demanded a ticket from Jamalpur-Khadia seat.

For Bapunagar, sources said that former leader of AMC, Himmatsinh Patel, is likely to get mandate to contest elections. It is to be noted that Patel has lost two Assembly elections and one parliament election. And per Rahul Gandhi's close confidantes, a candidate who has already lost two elections in a row will not get a ticket. Dinesh Sharma, an existing leader of Opposition is a Hindi speaker and a strong candidate from Bapunagar, but his selection is not going unopposed.

Asarva is reserved seat and there is a fight between former Councillor Rajshree Kesari and former councillor Mangal Surajkar. Both are scheduled caste candidates. In 2012, Surajkar lost the election. Being a reserved seat, Congress has very few strong options.
