The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday accused BJP candidate from Rajkot East Arvind Raiyani of falsifying information in his affidavit. The party in a letter to the deputy collector MK Patel has sought cancellation of his nomination on the grounds of misrepresentation in the affidavit.

AAP said Raiyani and his family are registered as voters in Rajkot East as well as Wankaner. "A person who is registered as a voter in one constituency can contest an election from another constituency. But, you cannot be contesting an election and be registered as a voter from two seats," said Ajit Lokhil, AAP's candidate from Rajkot East. Lokhil said the fact that almost all his family members are registered as voters from two constituencies shows that the intention was to cheat and vote in both seats.

"Moreover, in his affidavit he stated that he is registered as voter in Rajkot East. He did not mention Wankaner. This is misrepresentation and the motive was to hide the information," said Lokhil. He said the officials under pressure from the BJP government have allowed the nomination on the pretext that 'being registered as voter in two seats' is not a ground to cancel nomination as per the election handbook given to them. "The deputy collector MK Patel despite our representation cleared all the nomination.

What is the point of having rules if the officials are not willing to follow them," said Lokhil.
