Union minister for Defence Nirmala Sitharaman charted four questions for Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for when the latter is on his visit to Gujarat. Sitharaman addressed a press conference in Ahmedabad on Friday and alleged that the Congress had failed to retain faith among voters of Gujarat as an Opposition. She also blamed Congress leaders for stalling public projects in Gujarat. She said that the Congress made derogatory comments on the BJP leaders like PM Narendra Modi and the Army chief.

Sitharaman said, "Congress has failed as an opposition too as they could not represent the people. Their MLAs were enjoying in Bengaluru resort when people in flood-affected areas needed them in Gujarat. They also put hurdles against public projects like national highways, irrigation schemes and others, which the Narendra Modi-led Gujarat government persistently worked for. For all these reasons, the Congress lost faith in people of Gujarat and their total strength in the state Assembly has been declining since 2002."

"Rahul Gandhi asks questions to BJP whenever he comes to Gujarat, but never replies to our queries. He should ask Ashok Gehlot, the Gujarat in-charge of their party, why he opposed the irrigation scheme in Gujarat. He should also answer why they siphoned off funds collected by Congress workers and diverted them to defunct publications like the National Herald," sheadded.

The Union minister verbally thwarted the Congress and said that their leaders have dug their own grave by making controversial statements. She said, "Congress sometimes makes insulting comments against PM Narendra Modi and calls him a 'chaiwala' or 'maut ka saudagar'. They also called us 'khoon ki dalali karne wala' on the issue of surgical strikes and the Army chief was called 'sadak ka gunda. I would say that these are the people who tried to sell the nation by their corrupt practices."

Sitharaman also pointed fingers at Congress on the Doklam issue and said that the party leaders asked the question to Chinese the ambassador on the issue in place of asking the same question to the Ministry of External Affairs.

'Rahul's hands are shaking'

The Union Minister criticised Rahul Gandhi for letting Mahatma Gandhi's statue slip from his hands in Porbandar on Friday. She said that the Congress' hands shook as they were disappointed. "People in Gujarat do not look at the Congress as good political option. The disappointment made their hands shake and that is why Rahul Gandhi could not handle the memento."
