Patidars of Ahmedabad thronged the roads to join the motorcycle rally of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leader Hardik Patel on Monday.
Before starting the rally in Ghuma, Hardik visited Khodiyar temple to take blessings. The rally that started around 11.30 am had nearly 500 bikers escorting the vehicle of the young Patidar leader amidst heavy deployment of cops. Among those who joined were women Patidars as well as their families. Residents of Ghuma and Bopal showed their support by coming out of their societies.
A confident Hardik said, "We are getting good response and I am confident."
Resident of Ghuma and biker Prakashbhai Patel said that Congress is on the winning track. Prakashbhai had taken leave from his office to participate in the rally.
Bikers were constantly chanting slogans such as 'Jay Sardar', 'Dekho Modi kaun Aya, Hardik tera baap aya'.
At different intervals, Hardik was welcomed with garlands and flowers were showered on him. At Pancharipuri near Sola Bhagwat, Pallaviben Patel, a resident of Shayona city, waited patiently at the town circle for the rally. She said, "BJP has not done anything for the middle class. I support Hardik and have come to see him."
The Patidar-dominated area of Ghatlodia, which suffered damage during the 2015 agitation, had not just heavy deployment of cops but also that of personnel of Rapid Action Force (RAF).
At a society in Ghatlodia, women were seen waving to Hardik. Kalpanaben Raghvani, a homemaker, said, "We don't care about any party. We are out here to see Hardik."
Shantibhai Chaparia, another onlooker, said: "All this ruckus has been created by Hardik only. I have been living in Ghatlodia for years, but I belong to Kutch which is 500 kilometres away. My village was parched but Modi has done that magic of bringing water, and that is a big thing for me. I am here only to see Hardik; there is no harm in seeing him."
