Gujarat Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki hit out at BJP president Amit Shah and other leaders for their continuing attack on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, saying that the ruling party was rattled due to its impending defeat in the upcoming elections.

"Rahul ji has come to Gujarat just four times. He met people and heard them. Amit Shah and BJP leaders are scared of the love and affection Rahul ji has got from people, which is why they are targeting him," Solanki told media-persons.

The Congress chief further said that instead of talking about issues such as demonetisation and GST that affect people, BJP leaders were repeatedly abusing Rahul ji. He accused BJP of not being able to deliver on its promises, and resorting to diversionary tactics to shift focus from real issues.

Solanki, who is not contesting in the upcoming elections, alleged that the masses, farmers and youth were suffering in the state, and only select industrialists were doing well.

The former Union minister also denied BJP's charge that Congress was doing caste politics in the state, saying it was the BJP president who had said that they will fight the Gujarat elections on the OBC card and the Narmada issue.

"I want to ask them why they are talking about castes if they have done a lot of good for people of Gujarat in the 22 years that they have been in power, and are talking about winning 150 seats," he added.
