It's the eve of counting of votes in Gujarat Assembly polls and all sorts of 'stories' are floating in the air…errr WhatsApp.
They range from issues as serious as the internet being banned on the counting day to the one like BJP booking the Sardar Patel stadium for its swearing-in ceremony.
One of those canards that really took the goat of the officials — the Internet ban rumour.
As the 'order' bears an official looking seal and even forged signature in the name of deputy Election Commissioner K L Parmar, he filed an FIR, seeking the origin of the rumour, with the cyber cell of the Ahmedabad Crime Branch.
The 'letter' says several EVMs were hacked during the two phases of the Gujarat polls. These machines, with microchips inside, were connected to some of the satellite towers of telecommunication companies. "The EC has therefore ordered these companies to stop beaming internet on December 18 between 8 am and 6 pm," it reads.
Rajdeep Zala, Additional DCP of Crime branch, said they had started an investigation. Zala also said the police have lodged a case against unidentified person/s.
"We believe the forged letter was circulated to create chaos in social media and could create a law and order situation in the state," he started.
As if this was not enough, Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti leader Hardik Patel tweeted that a team of 140 engineers from an Ahmedabad-based company was ready to hack over 5,000 EVMs via 'source code'. He even named assembly seats where the attempt was made.
FAKE RESIGNATION
Vaghani was not the only one to have been affected by the fake letter virus. A 'resignation letter' of Congress state president Bharatsinh Solanki was also making rounds on social media after ticket distribution in which he was said to have been unhappy over tickets to Alpesh Thakor and his men. In the fake letter that went viral, Solanki was quoted as saying that the Congress will lose heavily because of this decision.

A ‘letter’ that went viral was purportedly from state BJP president Jitu Vaghani to party’s national president Amit Shah, saying Vaghani allegedly wrote that the party was losing badly.
