Sixty-three candidates filed their nominations from 21 Assembly segments in Ahmedabad city and district on Friday, official sources said.

Minister and BJP candidate from Vatva seat, Pradipsinh Jadeja, BJP nominee from Naroda seat, Balram Thavani and AAP candidate from Danilimda seat JJ Mewada, were among them.

Though majority of the nominations were filed by independent candidates, some nominees from smaller parties such as Shiv Sena and Bahujan Samaj Party also filed their candidature.

The Congress has not yet announced names for its candidates for the second phase, but the party is believed to have informed the chosen ones to keep their documents ready. Its two MLAs from Ahmedabad city, viz. Shailesh Parmar from Danilimda seat and Gyasuddin Sheikh (Dariapur), are almost certain to be repeated. The party has also sounded out the other candidates.

The last day for filing of nominations is November 27.

Meanwhile, Friday was the last day for withdrawal of nominations for the 89 seats going to polls in the first phase on December 9. Officials said that 1,280 candidates were in fray after scrutiny of papers, but the number will be lower due to cancellation and withdrawal of several forms.
