And, the locals say it's not just the awful stink but also the filth that lies all over the road that spoils the mood of the passer-by. The bovines feed themselves on the heap of the waste. It adds to the risk , and that ads a risk to the dailys commuters. Khusbhoo Parikh, one of the commuters, said: "I usually use this road to go to the market to buy vegetables. The stink is increasing and unbearable."

Last February, after making several efforts drawing the attention of local authorities to the garbage dump, the school authorities had sought help from the state health minister. Concerned with air pollution, the school authorities on December 31, 2017 had written to the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) seeking their intervention in the matter. However, when there was no response from AUDA, the school again wrote to the authorities requesting urgent attention on this issue.

When DNA contacted Jigisha Shah, President, Bopal Nagarpalika said, "We are aware of the dump site and we have sent a proposal for an alternative site. AUDA has given us a space two kilometres from the present site but some formalities and payment are left. Once it is done, it will be shifted soon."

Not only this dump, but Bopal is high on pollution level due to dug up roads and construction activities. The residents also experience dust storm quite frequently and it is very harmful."

He added, "We are however bit relieved since the new President of Nagarpalika has taken over. The situation has improved and now we can see the garbage also being collected. Hoping that soon the situation will be solved."

The letter which was sent to Bopal Nagar Palika President last year read: I would like to bring it into your kind notice that existing garbage dump adjacent to DPS Bopal has become a health hazard to the students and staff of the school. Also, lots if stray animals are wandering in the area due to this garbage dump. In view of the issue, is related to the health of the students and staff, you are requested to look into the case personally and arrange the shifting of garbage dump from this place to somewhere else.
