Gujarat Domicile Parents Association wants medical admissions halted for document verification

To put a stop to the use of fake documents for admissions, Gujarat Domicile Parents Association has sought a halt in the medical admission process for a few days in order to verify documents. 

Recently, the state government amended a rule ahead of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), making state domicile mandatory for admission to MBBS, BDS and other medical courses in the state. The rule impacts 4,050 sanctioned seats for MBBS in 24 government, grant-in-aid and self-financed colleges.

With the new rule, reports of fake domicile certificates being issued have emerged lately, said Dr Vasant Patel, president, Gujarat Domicile Parents Association. He said, “The first round of admissions are open till July 12. Hence we have sought halt in the process for 2-3 days so that authorities can verify not just main documents but also supporting documents of 4000 applicants. There are 11 centres in Gujarat hence if the government appoints more staff, verification can be done.

We want it to happen before admission to prevent fake admissions. If authorities find out fake documents post admissions, it will be very difficult then.
