A classical dance depicting the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and a drama depicting Gandhiji in a lighter vein will mark the beginning of celebrations of 150th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation. Navjivan Trust established by Gandhiji, a century ago, is planning a series of events this year for the young generation. This will also mark the centenary celebrations of formation of Navjivan Trust.

A Gujarati play 'Mohan No Masalo' will be organised on Saturday HK Arts College auditorium, while the dance performance will be organised at Thakorbhai Desai Hall, informed Vivek Desai, managing trustee of Navjivan Trust.

Pratik Gandhi, one of the promising Gujarati actors, will play the role of Gandhiji in the play, directed by Mumbai-based Manoj Shah. The script is written by Ishant Doshi. The play depicts the journey from Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi to Mahatma Gandhi.

The event will be followed by a Bharat Natyam dance production 'Mahatma – An Eternal Spirit' by the students of Aavirbhav School of Creative Arts. The act will be based on the values of non-violence, truth, good-will (sadbhavna) and inner strength (antar shakti). "This is an attempt to project the values that Gandhiji cherished, through a medium of dance. It also has narration, visuals and music in background. We want the young generations to know the values that Gandhiji lived and died for," said Sarmishtha Sarkar, director of Aavirbhav School of Creative Arts.

"We are planning to have one or two events related to Gandhiji every month. We have recently published a picture book on Gandhiji called 'Gandhi Chitra Katha'. Navjivan Trust has also published 500 copies of Gandhiji's writing on international relations by the name of 'Gandhi and International Politics'. These articles were written by Gandhiji himself," said Desai.
