Political leaders across parties condemned the killing of former BJP MLA Jayanti Bhanushali while he was travelling on a train from Bhuj to Ahmedabad. Two unidentified persons entered the AC coach and opened fired at Bhanushali.
“The railway police and local police are investigating the case together. The government has taken serious note of the incident,” chief minister Vijay Rupani told reporters on Tuesday.
Condemning the killing, state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Jitu Vaghani said that Bhandushali had risen from the ranks and served as state BJP vice-president. “The police will find the killers,” Vaghani said.
Leader of Opposition Paresh Dhanani alleged that Bhanushali had been killed to prevent truth of the Kutch sex scandal from coming out. Dhanani alleged that several top BJP leaders were involved in the sex scandal and probably feared being exposed.
“The law and order situation in Gujarat has deteriorated. The common man is living under constant fear. We fear that the killing is to prevent the truth from coming out,” he alleged.
State Congress president Amit Chavda also raised a similar suspicion.“Was Jay anti Bhanushali, accused of running a sex racket, eliminated to save big names of BJP leaders involved in the sex scandal? The law and order situation has gone from bad to worse in Gujarat. As CM holds the home department, he should take up full responsibility,” Chavda said.
PAAS convenor Alpesh Kathiriya said that the killing was a political encounter.
“Like (former home minister) Haren Pandya, he too has been silenced. The incident reflects the reality of law and order situation in Gujarat,” he said.
Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Paresh Dhanani also alleged that Jayanti Bhanushali had been brutally murdered to prevent the truth of the Kutch sex scandal from coming out
