Gujarat Congress began its rally 'Khedut Samvedana Yatra' from Gandhidham on Sunday to raise the plight of the farmers. The recent case of sands and pebbles being recovered from groundnutsacks has been the trigger behind the rally. Congress stated that they will expose other corruptions in agriculture sector and how farmers are falling victim under the present BJP government. They also accused the government of turning a blind eye to the suffering of the farmers.

The rally is being organised by the Kisan Cell of Congress. It is headed towards Gandhidham – Padana Patiya – Bhachau – Samakhyali - Maliya - Halvad – Dhrangadhra – Malvan – Viragam – Sachana – Sanand and Gandhinagar, covering over 350 kilometres. It will have night halts at Halvad and Sanand on Sunday and Monday and will reach Gandhinagar on Tuesday. The rally began with 51 tractors and more joined in as it proceeded and departed as a part of solidarity.

"There are so many issues where farmers have been at a receiving end under the BJP administration. These include land measurement exercise, procurement of groundnut and tur, as well as other. Farmers are not getting crop insurance, and are deprived of remunerative prices of their produce. Canals are leaking, resulting in wastage of water and there are many more issues. BJP government has sought proof of the scams. We will submit the proofs," said Pal Amabaliya, president of Kisan Cell of Congress, who is spearheading the yatra.

"Following the procurement scam, we have demanded and inquiry by a High Court judge. But the government is delaying and initiating an inquiry. So we are taking the matter to the masses," said Ambaliya.

Congress leaders from the state are also coming out to support the protestors. Former Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president flagged of the rally at Gandhidham, while Leader of the Opposition in the state legislative assembly Paresh Dhanani will join the rally on Monday and Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president Amit Chavda as well as former GPCC president Siddharth Patel will join the rally on Tuesday. Representatives of Kisan Cell from Delhi are also likely to participate.

The rally will reach state capital Gandhinagar on July 2, when the Monsoon session of Vidhan Sabha will begin. Farmers will conduct protests on reaching Gandhinagar. Congress is also likely to raise the issue of various scams in agriculture and farm distress, during the Monsoon session.
