The Gujarat Congress launched the party's 'Shakti' project, which is aimed at acting as a bridge between the party workers and the leadership, on Saturday. Gujarat is the fifth state where the project has been launched after Rajasthan, Delhi, Telangana and Chhattisgarh.

Gujarat Congress president Amit Chavda told reporters that the Shakti project would enable the party to know opinion of its ground-level workers on key matters, and help in taking the correct decisions, and appealed party workers to join the project in large numbers.

The party's Gujarat in-charge Rajeev Satav said the project was among the series of steps initiated by party president Rahul Gandhi to connect with workers.

"The Shakti project will play a big role in helping the party decide its strategy in important matters," said Satav.

Congress councillors on Saturday held protest at Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation against what they described as partisan behaviour of municipal commissioner Mukesh Kumar during Friday's general board meeting. The Congress councillors chanted slogans criticising the commissioner. They also gave a memorandum to Mayor Bijal Patel.
