Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Friday visited several historical places in Israel as part of his six-day trip to the Mediterranean nation.

Rupani went to the historic Indian cemetery in Haifa, Indian hospice and Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem. The Chief Minister was overwhelmed by the historic importance of the places and also put remarks in the visitors book.

The CM also visited the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum that was built in memory of the martyrs and Jewish people who were killed in world war II. This museum has three different segments like Holocaust history museum, Hall of Names and art gallery.

Rupani, in his remarks in visitors' book, wrote: "This mass killing occurred during second world war was one of the gruesome incidents of that time. It is a responsibility of every nation, religion and sect to see that no such incident takes place ever in future. Our history teaches us that whatever be a person's religion, caste, creed or nationality, we should always imbibe the qualities of humanity and keep it alive in our hearts. The Jewish community sustained, suffered and faced many agonies and challenges, but the way they have progressed is a great example before the global community."

Yad Vashem Museum, located on the western protrude of Mount Herzl, was built in 1953. The museum is the second most famous place of Israel after the Western Wall of Jerusalem. Rupani moved to an Indian Hospice in Jerusalem that was built 800 years ago. This place provides shelter to Indians who visit Israel or Jerusalem. Rupani paid tributes to a Sufi Saint Baba Faridi who stayed here in the 12th century. The Chief Minister also visited Haifa, the third largest city of Israel located on north side of the country. Rupani went to Indian cemetery built in remembrance of Indian soldiers of the British Army who captured Haifa from the Ottomans in 1918.

The Indian soldiers, from Jodhpur and Maisur, were riding on horses and had swords or spears but overran the Ottoman soldiers who were having guns and other deadly weapons. PM Narendra Modi also had visited the place during his trip to Israel in July 2017.
