Ekta Yatra was launched by Gujarat government on Friday where Chief Minister Vijay Rupani flagged off the event from Bardoli. This is the place where Sardar Patel had launched his ‘Satyagraha’ for farmers against the British. Rupani said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken up Sardar Patel’s mantle and taken up the freedom fighter’s struggle on world-level stage.

“Sardar Patel united 562 erstwhile states and became the sculptor of united India. The Ekta Yatra is also aimed at uniting all the communities in India rising above differences on various fronts,” the CM said.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated the Surya Shakti Kisan Yojana (SKY) scheme that provides assistance to farmers for installation of solar panels in farms and increase earnings by generating electricity.  Energy minister Saurabh Patel, tribal development minister Ganpat Vasava and social justice and empowerment minister Ishwar Parmar also were present at the event. “Sardar Patel had launched his disobedience movement for the farmers against the British government from here. Our government is for the farmers. The SKY scheme would enable farmers to earn more and raise their living standards,” Saurabh Patel said.

The yatra will move in 10,000 villages across Gujarat and that was launched in different phases from different places. One of the phases for central Gujarat was launched by deputy CM Nitin Patel from Sardar Patel’s ancestral village Karamsad.

Nitin Patel here also visited the memorial house where Sardar Patel lived with the family. He in visitor’s book wrote that he felt eternal bliss paying a visit to the place where Sardar lived and that gave him positive energy and inspiration.

“Sardar Patel’s contribution for the independence of India remained unique but some people in India never let his contribution to shine. They tried to suppress his role for India and always eulogised a particular family and clan. The glory of Sardar Patel will be known to future through the Statue of Unity,” he said.

Revenue minister Kaushik Patel and minister of state for home Pradipsinh Jadeja flagged off the Yatra for North Gujarat from Nikol area of Ahmedabad. The ministers paid verbal homage to Sardar Patel and praised for his role as a sculptor of United India and a leader with strong willpower and clean image.
