Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani claims 74% achievements in Jal Sanchay works against reports of 2%

Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani came up with the clarification on Friday that his government completed 74% civil work of total target under the Sujalam Sufalam Jal Sanchay Abhiyan. The month-long water conservation drive has crossed first half on Tuesday and the government officials presented the statistics in the cabinet meeting to CM on Wednesday showing the hard fact that only 2% of work was completed. Exactly a day before, chief secretary had claimed that 90% of total work completed.

The Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was at Jharola village near Borsad town of Anand district on Friday for the inauguration of the civil works for the drive. Talking to media persons, he said, "We have achieved 74% accomplishment of total works and rest of 26% will start in next three days. We have targetted to deepen 13,000 lakes in the state and we are committed to achieving 100% target by the end of this drive."

"This is the greatest ever water conservation drive in India and all are engaged in this work wholeheartedly. May it be common man, administration or party functionary, all have been contribution at their best. Almost all the districts have 70% of total work completed and there are many districts like Navsari which has 90% achievement," said the CM.

The chief minister was disappointed to know that only 258 lakh cubic feet work was completed against 11,000 lakh cubic feet. Surprisingly, a day before the CM made a clarification of 74% works done, the chief secretary Dr JN Singh claimed on Thursday that 90% of total work completed.

Singh, through a press release, informed the media persons, "Against 16,616 works designated for the drive, 90% works have either completed or are under progress. As many as 2,540 works have totally completed and 9,790 works are under progress in different 33 districts. More than 27.50 lakh man days employments were generated through this drive as on the date."
