State government says the situation of education is improving in the state due to constant efforts of the government
The Gujarat government on Monday in an official release claimed that there was a massive drop in schools in B, C and D grade whereas number of Grade A+ and A schools were on the rise. As per Gunotsav 8 results, a total of 3207 schools got Grade A+ as against 2117 schools last year whereas a total of 22436 schools got Grade A as against 17653 schools.
Gunotsav, the annual evaluation of 34000 government schools aims at enhancing the educational standards of nearly 54 lakh children in primary schools this year was held on April 6 and 7.
As far as Grade D schools are concerned, there has been nearly 40% drop. As against last year, when 300 schools were Grade D schools, this year only 181 schools were rated as Grade D, the state government claimed. Whereas as against 12556 Grade B schools in 2017, this year 7629 schools were Grade B schools. As against 1613 Grade C schools in 2017, this year, 774 schools were Grade C schools.
State education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said, "The results this year shows our attempts to improve quality of education in the state. The results tell our success in education. Gunotsav has been document in central governments plan and many states like Madhya Pradesh, Prissa, Assam, Rajasthan and others have implemented the same."
However, this result is contrary to the findings of the National Achievement Survey (NAS) released by HRD ministry early this year, that stated that the state has a lot of catching up to do so. The survey which was conducted in all 33 districts of the state interviewing over 1.25 lakh students, shows a consistent decline in the learning levels of students i mathematics, language and science from Class 3-8 in government school system.
