Gujarat board results: 64.5% drop in schools that recorded 100% results

City records 75.24% as pass percentage

The Gujarat board results of Class 12, Science, has revealed a shocking state of affairs this year, with 64.5% drop in schools that recorded 100% results. Not only this, there has been also a dip in overall pass percentage as against last year. While there were 118 schools last year which had recorded 100% results, the number this year has been fallen to just 42.

As far as overall pass percentage is concerned, nearly 9% dip has been witnessed with 72.99% this year as against 81.89% last year. The results that were declared on Thursday revealed that Rajkot topped with 85.03% result.

Whereas Chota Udepur recorded the lowest with 35.64%. The pass percentage of Ahmedabad city was 75.24 whereas the same for Ahmedabad rural was 82.17, Vadodara 75.16 and Surat 78.77.

Out of over 1.34 lakh students who appeared for the board exams, the pass percentage of girls was higher than boys as girls scored 74.91% as against 71.84% of boys. Whereas, copying cases increased nearly three times this year with 120 cases being registered as against 45 last year. As far as mediums were concerned, the highest pass percentage was recorded in Urdu. English-medium students once again fared better than their Gujarati medium counterparts posting 75.58% pass our percentage. The same for Gujarati medium was 72.45%.

In Gujarati medium schools, 112 students scored A1 whereas, in English medium, 22 scored A1. Whereas, maximum Gujarati medium students received C2 grade.

GUGCET results declared:

The GSHSEB on Thursday along with class 12 Science stream result also declared Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GUJCET) results. A total number of 1340 students from Group A (613) and Group B (727) scored above 99 percentile whereas 1248 students from Group A and 1470 students from Group B score above 98 percentile. A total of 136393 candidates had registered for GUJCET of which 134900 had appeared for the entrance exam.

98.98 percentile

FD High school for girls, Jamalpur
Shahana’s father passed away in 2013 due to cancer. However, that did not let her down in studies. She took it as a challenge and, with the family’s support, scored 98.98 percentile.  She has been living in a joint family since her father’s death. “Shahana is a bright girl and she deserves the result. Her father expired a few years ago. Since then her mother has been ill. Her maternal grandfather took responsibility for her studies,” said Anisha Shaikh, Principal, FD school.

Vedant Thakkar
99.01 percentile

Nirman high school, Vasna
Vedant stopped playing the drums to focus on studies. He has been playing the drums for many years, but now he has also stopped being on the social media. “I scored 99.63 percentile in SSC and I had expected this result in Class 12. I will now be appearing for JEE Advance as I want to study computer engineering at an IIT,” he said.

Shaikh Mohammad Sohail Sirajuddin
99.89 percentile

Son of an auto-rickshaw driver, Sohail determined to study hard and hit an over-boundary in Class 12 exams. A die-hard cricket fan, Sohail left playing the game to focus on studies and wants to pursue computer engineering. The father of the little champion told DNA: “I leave home at 7.00 am and return late in the night. I have a family of five. My elder brother also helps me by working part-time.”
