This was not for the first time in the history of Gujarat assembly that unruly scenes played on the floor of the house with MLAs coming to blows. In past too, some scenes also faded the grace.

In 1995, when Suresh Mehta was the chief minister of state after rebellion of Shankersinh Vaghela, MLAs of Congress and BJP came to blow in house. Members threw mikes at each other. Congress member Shaktisinh Gohil hurled Mike at the then speaker Dolat Desai to which speaker escaped from. This brought great instability in Gujarat government and Suresh Mehta government lost power.

Before that, in late 80’s when Amarsinh Chaudhary was CM, Congress member Udesinh Baria and former BJP leader Ashok Bhatt indulged into fight, in which Baria sustained injuries and bleed a lot while Bhatt’s clothes were torn.

In early 90’s Chimanbhai Patel was the chief minister of Gujarat and he was reading a proposal on Narmada irrigation project in house. Suddenly, Ashok Bhatt from opposition rushed near to him shouting at CM and threw a pouch full of currency notes at Patel. Bhatt alleged corruption in project by Patel’s government and also torn the papers of proposals and threw at the face of chief minister. Bhatt, however, was pardoned by the house for the act. This incident was referred by opposition members during debate on Wednesday when they argued to pardon two first time members Dudhat and Der.
