The Gujarat assembly will proceed on the no-confidence motion against the speaker on Thursday. The house will have to give the sanction first to the proposal forwarded by the deputy leader of opposition Shailesh Parmar and then in next seven working days, the same can be pushed for voting in the house.

The proposal needs support of 17 members of house and in the condition of required support, the motion can be brought in house for debate and voting.

Sources from the Gujarat assembly secretariat said, "It will be a formality as per the rules of assembly to get the sanction of the house to proceed further on motion for the procedures like voting. As it requires support of 17 members, it can easily be sanctioned. The speaker, then can fix the date for bringing the motion of no confidence in the house for voting. He can discuss the issue with the leaders of both the parties before fixing the date for that."

The Congress is firm to bring this motion in the house as they were not happy on the ruling of speaker Rajendra Trivedi suspending three of its members. The opposition had moved the motion on February 28 and it required to get the sanction of house for further proceedings within a period of 14 working days and that was over on March 19.

Both the parties, however, had hinted compromise on Tuesday in the house on the issue, but no conclusion was achieved on it by Wednesday evening. It is possible that the formula of compromise might be prepared during the meeting between leaders from both the parties in presence of speaker. If it is decided mutually that the suspension of three Congress members is to be revoked, the opposition can withdraw the motion against speaker.

The opposition leader Paresh Dhanani said to DNA that no conclusive meeting between leaders of both the communities was held and the Congress would fight on this issue till the last moment. It is also learnt that the Congress has started preparation to challenge speaker's ruling before legal forum on the suspension of two Congress MLAs for three years and one member of one year.
