The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has booked an assistant geologist from Patan in a case of Disproportionate Assets (DA), officials said.

The agency had caught Ajitsingh Yaduvanshi, assistant geologist in Mehsana, on July 22, 2016, while accepting bribe. Yaduvanshi was also holding charge of assistant geologist of Patan at the time.

The same day, ACB sleuths recovered Rs1 lakh in cash from a drawer in Yaduvanshi's office in Patan. ACB said that he was unable to give a satisfactory explanation about the large amount of cash, and gave different versions when interrogated.

"Investigations showed that the explanations given by him were false. The cash was beyond his known sources of income, and made it clear that he had received the cash through corrupt means by misusing his official position," ACB said.

A case was registered against the official under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act at the time. ACB said that the accused has been arrested, and further investigations are underway.

ACB said that KG Upadhyay, then assistant director of GLDC in Vadodara, field supervisor KG Shah, area assistant DP Rathwa, and contractor Dhirendra Singh, were booked.

The three GLDC officials forged bills and paid Rs2.09 lakh to the contractor for farm pond works undertaken only on paper.

A case was registered under Prevention of Corruption Act, and various sections of IPC for fraud, against them with Vadodara Rural ACB police station today. ACB said that the contractor was arrested today, and search is on for the remaining accused.
