It’s time to change the top rungs of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.

The ruling party, BJP, has been split into three different groups and each section is driving its own agenda. One group is loyal to former chief minister Anandiben Patel, one belong to party president Amit Shah’s camp while the third one consists of senior municipal councillors.

All these people remained silent about public welfare work till only before the Assembly elections.

They started voicing their grievances regarding bad roads only a few months before the polls.

Now, as we inch closer to the selection of the top post holders at the civic body, the locals are meeting their organisation leaders and complaining against the executive wing, accusing them of being inefficient.

Loyalists of Anandiben Patel firmly believe that their suggestions are being ignored. Standing Committee Chairman Pravin Patel who belongs to the Patel camp expresses his helplessness after every meeting and blames the executive wing.

However, according to BJP sources, “Several civic body contracts are given to his relatives. He has been silent for long.”  “That’s what makes the councillors angry during standing committee meetings. The BJP party was once known for its discipline, that’s hardly there now. Due to the apathy and weakness of the top post holders, councillors are complaining directly.”

On the other hand, a senior BJP leader, who is an Amit Shah loyalist, is busy meeting the municipal commissioner and other senior officials to submit applications regarding grievances in his area, according to sources. The third group is believed to be busy voicing their concerns and they seem to be supporting the Congress during general board meetings.
