Govt to set up 16 GIDC estates, to create 40K jobs

With the aim to create more employment opportunities, the state government announced on Wednesday that the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) will set up 16 new industrial estates in different parts of the state.

Giving details to media-persons, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that the new GIDC estates will come up in 14 districts.

"The estates will be spread over an estimated 2,460 hectares, and will comprise 14,540 industrial plots of different sizes for micro, small and medium enterprises. These estates are likely to attract investment o Rs 15,000 crore," Rupani said.

Rupani, who had announced a reduction of 4 per cent in VAT on petrol and diesel a day earlier, said that the new industrial estates will give a boost to industrial production.

"Many domestic and international companies are coming to Gujarat because of the success of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit.

These estates will allow micro, small and medium enterprises to create more jobs for Gujarati youths. We expect about 40,000 new employment opportunities to be created," he said.

Two proposed GIDC estates will come up in Amreli and Bhavnagar each, while there will be one each in Morbi, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Kutch, Surendranagar, Banaskantha, Ahmedabad, Aravalli, Dahod, Anand, Surat and Tapi.

"The new estates are spread throughout the state, and many of them are in remote areas. The expected investments will help in development in the respective belts," Rupani said.

1,086 NEW SHEDS

  • According to industries department officials, GIDC will build 1,086 new sheds in its 33 estates. While 112 sheds have already been constructed, and 552 are under construction, GIDC will build smaller 50 and 100 sq mt sheds on multi-storied sheds

 

  • The state government will provide 50 per cent subsidy for the sheds, while the rest will be borne by the GIDC
