The monsoon has finally arrived in full flow in the state and the Met department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated places in south Gujarat, heavy rainfall in some places of Saurashtra and light to moderate rains for the rest of the state. According to the forecast, there's currently a cyclonic circulation over the south Gujarat region and neighbouring areas which should provide rain across the state.

The southwest monsoon arrived over the state in the last week of June and has covered the entire state by now. Since, then some pockets have been receiving good rainfall. On Wednesday, Jalapor in Navsari district received maximum rainfall of 186mm, followed by Mangrol (Surat) with 139mm, Vaso (Kheda) with 116mm and Anand with 105mm.

Ahmedabad remained dry until late evening on Wednesday, although overcast conditions through the day brought some relief from the heat. The maximum temperature was recorded at six degrees below normal and the mercury settled at 29.1 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature was recorded at 25.4 degree Celsius, one degree below normal.

For Thursday, the Met department has forecast a few spells of rain and occasional thundershowers. The maximum temperature could be around 32 degree Celsius while the minimum could hover around 26 degree Celsius.

As per private forecast agency, Skymet Weather, there is an offshore trough extending from south Gujarat to coastal Karnataka. In addition to this, a cyclonic circulation has also been marked over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining Kutch and Pakistan, resulting in the flow of moist southwesterly winds. In the wake of these two weather systems, moderate rains along with some isolated heavy showers are to continue in south Gujarat. Flooding is also a chance in some pockets of this region.
