Gang specialising in daylight house break-ins nabbed by Ahmedabad Police

The gang used to strike during the day and had been arrested earlier for masterminding over 20 operations.

A gang from Haryana that was allegedly involved in 35 burglaries across Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan was arrested from Motera, near Ashram Chokdi, by the Crime Branch of city police on Friday. The gang used to strike during the day and had been arrested earlier for masterminding over 20 operations.

Apart from tools that the gang used to make us of during break-ins, the police have recovered 329 gm gold jewellery, worth Rs9.85 lakh, and a silver vessel and jewellery, worth 27,000 and Rs 37,000 in cash, and a car.

The accused have been identified as Satpal Singh Chauhan (38), Parmendra Dhodiya (25), and Somveer Singh Tanwar (38).

Initial investigation revealed that the gang had been active in Ahmedabad, Silvassa, Boisar in Maharashtra and Jaipur. They had also targeted houses in Surat, Kadi, Jamnagar, Morbi, Modasa and Gandhinagar.

While the gang used to reach the crime spot in a car, Satpal used to enter the house, police said, adding that the other two would keep guard.

Satpal had spent over 3.5 years in prison in Gurgaon in 2006. He had allegedly murdered one Gajraj Gurjan in Haryana.

He was also arrested by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch in 2016 on charges of over 23 house break-ins in the city. He had also been booked under Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA Act) and spent two months in Bhuj Jail. Satpal was released in Diwali, 2017.
