Gandhi celebration with a difference in Ahmedabad

A Sarva Dharma Prartna was held at the Gandhi Ashram on Wednesday as part of the 144th birth anniversary celebrations of the father of the nation. A number of other events part of the ‘Gandhi Utsav’ a week-long programme Gandhi in Ahmedabad was also carried out at the ashram.  The Utsav began with a  Prabhat Pheri at 4:30 am from Kalupur Swaminarayn Temple to Juma Masjid that was attended by 30 to 50 people.

This was followed by a musical programme and bhajans. A Chalo Carkha Ramiye programme taught participants, particularly school children, how to spin the charkha.

More than 500 kids from various schools also participated in Gandhi Jayanti celebration.

Talking about the significance of such events, Anju Musafir of Sarvoday International Trust said, “Gandhi has been institutionalised into textbooks and syllabus, but with such interactive and interesting concepts we want to show the joyful side of the father of the nation.”

“We want the youth to connect with the peace and loving side of Gandhi, for which we will be coming up with such interesting concepts every year,” he added.
