Gaekwad Haveli police nabbed two persons accused in the Rs 1.5 crore water meter theft case. The two had stolen water metres from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation warehouse in Jamalpur area and investigation revealed that one of them is an AMC security guard.

The accused have been identified as Shahid Nasir (security guard), a resident of Vatva and Pradipgiri Goshi, a resident of Jamalpur.

Investigations further revealed that Goshi used to live in AMC quarters, where he befriended Nasir. The duo began stealing water metres at night to make extra money.

VG Rathod, Inspector, Gaekwad Haveli Police Station, said, "During interrogation, the accused revealed that they used to steal water metres from the warehouse at night and resell them to scrap dealers."

On March 29, a complaint was lodged with the Gaekwad Haveli Police Station by an AMC official, after 4,612 water metres worth Rs 1.58 cr was reportedly stolen.

As per the complaint, on March 15, representatives of Shree Rang Sales Corporation has asked for 60 water metres. A bid to provide those revealed that the metres were missing and a case was lodged.
