To make more availability of toilets in the city, the civic authority is now officially going to issue a notification to the fuel stations within the limit of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
For the upcoming Swachh Sarvekshan project, Ministry of Urban Development has asked to make the toilets at fuel station accessible to the public. It is generally assumed that services such as air, water and toilet facility at fuel stations is free and is accessible to everybody.
"It is mandatory for fuel stations to give people free access to their toilets. However, there is no signage or display mentioning that. We are going to ask them to display a board, mentioning about the toilet availability," said Dr Bhavin Solanki, the in-charge medical officer of health, AMC.
"From now, these toilets at fuel stations will be included on the list of public toilets. Plus, they will also be given a GIS tag," added Dr Solanki.
"We have constructed individual and community toilets in the city. There are public toilets as well. And there is a provision for every fuel station to make the toilets accessible. Moreover, we have also made mandatory to provide free drinking water to the people," Dr Solanki said.
According to the ministry of petroleum, the allotment condition for fuel station mandates provision for proper toilet and drinking water facility. The stations are charging four paise per litre as maintenance charges for toilets.
The officials also informed that all toilets at the fuel station will get GIS tagging and information of the same will be available on Swachhta App.
