Four-day-old baby stabbed by father for being 6th girl in Gandhinagar

In yet another incident of female infanticide, a four-day-old baby girl was stabbed to death by her father, Vishnu Rathod, who was upset at having been blessed with a baby girl sixth time in a row. The angry man stormed into his wife's house and stabbed the infant.

"The baby was brought to us in a severe condition and was immediately rushed into surgery. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injury at around 8.15 pm," said a doctor at the Civil Hospital.

The incident happened in Moti Masang village, close to Rakhial in Dehgam near Gandhinagar. Sources said Rathod was infuriated that his sixth child was also a girl and in a fit of anger, stabbed the infant the tiny girl's ribcage with a knife.

Jaswant Jetsinh, the maternal grandfather of the baby, said, "After stabbing the baby, he tried to run away, but my daughter and others created a commotion and the neighbours managed to nab him. We called 108 and rushed the baby to Civil Hospital," said Jetsinh, adding, Rathod was in cops' custody. Rakhial police, meanwhile, refused to share information stating that they were still in the process of registering an FIR.
