A major fire was reported from a scrap shop that had polythenes stored in it on Sunday morning. The call was received at 9.58 am about the fire, which broke out at the shop in Shankar Bhuvan road near Shahpur.

The fire saw two nearby shops, that worked as godowns for scrap goods, being burnt down. Fire officials said that seven fire tenders and an ambulance were dispatched to manage the fire. "It took more than two hours to bring the fire under control. No casualties were reported," said fire officials.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. Fire officials said shops were close to each other and in shanties where there is no provision for fire control. This, they said, aggravated the situation.

Meanwhile, another major fire was reported at pharmaceutical giant Sun Pharma's plant in Bharuch. The fire was accompanied by a loud blast and was reported late in the night. It took 10 firefighters more than five hours to bring the fire under control. No casualties were reported in the incident. The cause of the fire is not known.
