The final hearing of the case related to Gujarat Self-Financed Schools (Regulation of Fees) Act will be heard by the Supreme Court on Wednesday. As per the information shared by the state government, Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama on Tuesday met senior officials to discuss the case. The official release stated that the state government is committed to work in the interest of students and parents.

It mentioned that the Fee Regulatory Committees (FRC) of all four zones have declared provisional fees of most of the schools. Schools that have not approach the FRC yet need to make representations to the apex court.

As per the new law, the state government has fixed the lower cut-off for pre-primary and primary schools (Rs 15,000), secondary and higher secondary schools offering general subjects (Rs 25,000) and higher secondary schools offering science subjects (Rs 27,000).

Schools that exceed the lower cut-off were asked to file proposals explaining their fee structure higher than the limits set by the government. Those who charge below the lower cut-off will have to file affidavits. The schools under the purview of the new law are those situated in Ahmedabad zone that covers 10 districts including Patan, Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, Arravali, etc.
