Fight between BJP and Cong cadre in Surat

Workers of BJP and Congress descended to body blow on Thursday in Surat city when candidates of both the parties reached the collector office for filing nomination. The verbal spat between workers of both the parties resulted in scuffle creating unruly scenes at the public premises. The police had to intervene in the issue.

The BJP candidate Darshana Jardosh reached collector's office after holding a roadshow in the city that started from Vanita Vishram building of Athwa Gate locality of Surat. Whereas the Congress candidate Ashok Adhevala also took out the roadshow from Mangadh Chawk of Varacha area before filing nomination.

Hundreds of workers of both the parties reached collector office in the afternoon. The Congress workers suddenly, seeing BJP candidate and workers, started sloganeering as 'Chawkidar Chor Hai', that incited BJP workers and they also started hooting against Congress leaders.

The verbal spat turned into a melee and workers from both the factions descended to a body blow. Meanwhile, the Congress corporator Kapila Patel's clothes were also ripped off by women workers of BJP amidst the scuffle. The police had to intervene in the issue to take the law and order situation under control. The police also charged baton to disperse the crowd. The women police rescued Kapila Patel from the crowd of BJP's women workers.

A local source from Surat district administration informed, "The issue ensued when the BJP workers stopped Congress leader's car moving. The slogans from both the sides added fuel to the fire. However, the police had to take the situation under control by using the force. Local leaders from both the side also tried to pacify their workers and then the issue was settled. This also disturbed the process of filing nomination for a while."
