Alleging that fake domicile certificates were being used by medical aspirants to secure admission, the Gujarat Domicile Parents' Association on Wednesday sought a CID inquiry into the matter. Recently, the state government amended a rule ahead of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), making state domicile mandatory for admission to MBBS, BDS and other medical education courses in the state. The rule impacts 4,050 sanctioned seats for MBBS in 24 government, grant-in-aid and self-financed colleges.

"Students who are not domicile of Gujarat and their parents have challenged the introduction of the domicile rule in the high court for their personal interests of taking their claim to the local quota seats rightfully belonging to the students of Gujarat. Such cross-border educational terrorism is a serious threat and a cause of definite concern for the citizens of Gujarat," said Dr Vasant Patel, President, Gujarat Domicile Parents Association.

"We have also learnt that certain candidates who are not domicile of the state but are still desirous of getting admission to the state quota seats have furnished bogus domicile certificates to the authorities that are acquired thorough illegal means. We urge the government to conduct a detailed CID inquiry into this."
