The Mahila Police decoy team, which was formed to nab eve-teasers during Diwali, could not register a case throughout the festive season. The reason: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally kept the entire force occupied in Bhavnagar.
The idea of the decoy teams stemmed from Navratri this year. The cops, dressed in traditional attires, had branched out to various garba events and parties in the city and kept an eye on eve-teasers, so women could enjoy the festivities. In the nine-night drive, the teams caught more than 70 people for harassing women. The drive gained momentum in the city with its steady success. The idea was to continue the drive during Diwali too.
Around 10 teams were formed by the department, to be deployed in the city during Diwali. But unfortunately, the plan was shelved because of the security needs during the PM visit. According to Mahila police officials, the teams were ready to roll but were called on to tighten security for the bandobast.
