Duo arrested for duping people on pretext of selling shoes online

The cyber cell of Ahmedabad police arrested two accused for duping people on the pretext of delivering branded shoes through an online shopping site Quikr.

The accused identified as Dharmesh Chauhan (21) and Bhavin Chauhan (24) are residents of Juna Vadaj.

A complaint lodged by victim Dinesh Thakor, a resident of Vejalpur stated that he had contacted one of the shoe sellers using the application after he liked one of their products.

He made the payment of Rs 1000 but he never got the shoes delivered. After contacted the seller, he was asked to buy another pair after which it will be delivered to him. Thakor got into his trap and paid for another pair again.

After the money was transferred to the account, the accused switched off his mobile phone. A complaint was then lodged with the cyber cell police station and the accused were arrested.

BV Barad, inspector of cyber cell stated, "With the help of the technical team we were able to track down the accused through their bank accounts. It was revealed that the accused were operating from Vadaj area of the city."

Soon a team was sent to the location and the two accused involved the case were arrested. During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused had duped around 40 people in the past using the modus operandi and further
investigation is on.
