Civic body to construct 10k affordable homes for the not well-off groups in city

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is planning to construct 10,000 low cost houses in different parts of the city.

The civic body will provide houses of 28 square metre carpet area for economically weaker sections (EWS) and 45 square metre carpet area for the lower income groups (LIG).

Applications for the same will be available from November 27 and the last day for submitting them is December 24. The forms will be available at AMC civic centres and some private banks.

The civic body will build 5,082 dwelling units for EWS and 4,877 for LIG in different areas such as Vejalpur, Chandkheda, Chandlodia, Nava Vadaj, Kali, Shahibaug, Kankaria, Nikol, Thaltej, Vastral, Rakhial, Asarwa and Sarangpur, said AMC municipal commissioner Guruprasad Mohapatra. The civic body will build ground plus five storied buildings for EWS category and ground plus seven and ten storied buildings for the LIG. The application forms will be available at all AMC civic centres and all branches of two private banks – ICICI Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank from November 27, he said.

The beneficiaries will have to pay Rs7,500 and Rs20,000 with an application for EWS and LIG, respectively. Moreover, Rs30,000 and Rs50,000 will be the maintenance deposit for EWS and LIG sectors, respectively.

The beneficiaries will not be allowed either to rent out or sell the houses for seven years. The units will be allotted through a computerised draw. Altogether, 465 shops and 12 offices will also be constructed in these projects.
